Next week our students in grades 3-6 will begin to take the CAASPP test. Grade levels and classes are scheduled on specific dates throughout the month of May. We want our students to approach this test with confidence, knowing that they have been productive learners all year long. The most important thing we ask of our students is to give their very best effort on all portions of the test. Your child’s teacher should be notifying you of when their class will be testing. We ask all parents to help during this testing period as well. You can help your child by making sure they have plenty of rest, have a healthy breakfast on the day of testing, and come to school on time. Please schedule any necessary appointments after school or on a day when testing is not scheduled so your child does not have to make up testing on an additional day. Maintaining a positive attitude and reducing stress at home and at school supports our students so that they can more accurately demonstrate what they know. Thank you for supporting your child and our school during this time. Parents should receive CAASPP results at the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.
The International Festival, sponsored by our Solana Beach PTA, is this Friday, April 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. here at Skyline School. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate multiculturalism and diversity in our wonderful Solana Beach community. This year’s International Festival promises to be full of discoveries and fun educational activities for the children. As they travel through all the different continents, they will learn about more than 20 countries and their culture. They will also have the opportunity to watch folk/international performances and participate in hands-on activities such as origami, Indian henna designs, African drumming, Turkish belly dancing, samba and much more.
We encourage families to come dressed in traditional costumes of your culture or even wear an international sports jersey! The international stands with interactive activities will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the shows from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We will also have several international food trucks on site and you will be able to buy either African food or pizza. Finally, there will be a free international food sample tasting table. Don’t miss out on this fun and educational family event!
We are looking forward to the 4th annual Beach Bash that is being held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds next weekend, Saturday, May 6th. The event is sure to be special with three live music acts and many exciting raffle and live auction prizes. 100% of the profits support our amazing programs offered in Discovery Labs (STREAM, Art, Technology and PE).
